Canaan Valley, nestled in the higher ranges of the Allegheny Mountains, is home to abundant scenery, wildlife and recreational opportunities. Ecologists and conservationists describe Canaan Valley as “a bit of Canada gone astray” ... we simply call it home.

Blackwater Falls

Located in the Allegheny Mountains two miles southeast of Davis, Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose tannic acid-stained, amber colored water cascades 62 feet into the rugged Blackwater Canyon.

In the late 70’s three friends, Chip Chase, Winslow Ayers and Tom Preston were skiing and chanced upon an abandoned ski lodge. They acquired the property and opened White Grass Ski Touring Center, an expansive Nordic style facility.

National Wildlife Refuge

In 1974 in recognition of the valley’s extensive wetlands, wildlife and habitats, Canaan Valley was declared a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service. Today, this 500th National Wildlife Refuge has acquired 15,245 acres throughout Canaan Valley.
