Great cabin at Canaan!

We stayed here for a little family vacation. 6 adults and we fit comfortably.
We got snowed in with 24 inches of snow but we enjoyed our weekend here. Some minimal upgrades to the cabin would be great but overall a nice home!

Pretty Great!

We had a great time at Foxwood. We would stay here again. We have 2 (minor) complaints: the hallway and downstairs bathroom was a bit musty, but that is par for the course at cabins. The other complaint: we could not turn off the hot tub and the sound often drained out the creek sounds we would have preferred to hear. The place was very clean (including things like potholders that are sometimes gross in rentals) and it was great having a good quality washer/dryer. Our dog and child were happy! We drove 5-10 minutes to trailhead to get to Dolly Sod and hiked there everyday. THAT PART WAS GREAT!!!!!!

Very Comfy!
We loved the house and especially enjoyed the May snowstorm. We would definitely stay again although in general, the house is due for some upgrades and maintenance. We loved the location within Timberline Resort.

February getaway
Despite a no snow event, my family really loved getting together for our annual winter getaway. Our rental was perfect with a cozy fireplace and relaxing hot tub, which provided us with a great place to soak after some fairly aggressive hiking. Plan to come back next year.

Mountain Retreat

A visit to Foxwood

Our Third visit to his property in Canaan Valley. Love the area in the Fall. The house is well secluded and quiet. Very well cleaned and maintained. It's a short drive to Davis, a nice little town with shops and breweries to visit. not far from there is Blackwater falls and the town of Thomas. A must-visit is the Purple Fiddle, a music venue, in Thomas. It's a small place and fills up quickly, but the people and service is great.

Loved the privacy

This rental was very private and secluded considering its in a resort. Was a great stay and very relaxing, great for dogs. A few things I did not like, but they in no way ruined my vacation. While the cleaner was good with surface cleaning, laundry and bed making etc. You really need to get a heavy duty cleaning crew in on ladders or scaffold and clean the cobwebs and dust out of places that the cleaner cant reach. Also the TV in the master bedroom is junk. It buzzes from the speaker, then a day later the picture was tearing or scrambling. I unplugged it for the day, and that helped the picture. But you need to replace that TV. All and all, except for a few annoyances, I would stay here again.

Cozy getaway in the mountains
The cabin was in a beautiful location convenient to ski slopes, and the hot tub was wonderful. (We couldn’t find any towels in the bin outside however despite the instructions to only use the ones in the bin!) There are lots of books and games as well as plenty of pots and pans. If you care about having decent knives for cooking though, bring your own. Also make sure you clean your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher as we had to rewash some after they came out. We enjoyed cozy nights by the woodstove! Make sure you have AWD/4WD in winter!

The home is equipped nicely with everything you should need. We had some problems with how clean the rental was and one of the toilets would not flush, but after talking to the rental company, I would rent this home again.

Perfect Winter Escape
Foxwood was the perfect winter escape. The house was warm and cozy and felt like home. Everything we needed was there and as described in the rental description. It snowed almost everyday we were there, it was breathtaking. It snowed 4” one day and another 8-10” another day. Thank goodness they have someone come to plow the driveway ! We had a great experience and would definitely rent Foxwood again!

Great value and plenty of space.

The layout of the cabin is very nice. We planned to let the kids stay upstairs to have more privacy in the first floor bedroom. The mattress is very uncomfortable in that room and you can feel almost every spring. The bedding was nice and there was plenty extra. We ended up sleeping in the king size bed and that bed was nice. The tv in the second upstairs room did not work and the tv in the king had limited options, but that only matters if you're stuck in the cabin. It's in a beautiful setting, which we loved. We had some issues with the hot tub our first night, but someone came out and fixed it right away the next morning. The woodstove was great, especially after the hot tub. Also, the instructions about the separate hot tub towels was confusing. The bin outside has cushions in it and the linen closet upstairs was a hot mess so hopefully we used the right towels. This isn't a modern cabin, but it is definitely efficient and affordable. The price made a last minute family vacation possible. I would return again.

Perfect Place for Me!

For 20 years, I've been coming to Old Timberline. It's my favorite place. I've rented a bunch of different cabins, but this one was so perfect for me. There was a dog door! That was SO wonderful. The deck also has gates you can close to keep your pup from straying. The kitchen was huge and fully stocked. It had every pot, pan, dish, utensil, etc. you could ever need. It even had a microwave that allowed you to turn off the annoying beeps. Awesome! This cabin is so secluded, so quiet, so comfortable. I'm definitely coming back.

A Great Return to Foxwood

Years ago we enjoyed multiple visits to Foxwood and returned to find it has held up well. The hot tub is newer than in most rentals and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with one issue that I've since seen on previous reviews - the stove! If you need to bake at 350 you're in luck - any other temperature is a gamble as the touchpad is broken. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The charcoal grill is not the best you'll find but it works. All around a great stay!
So glad you enjoyed another stay at Foxwood! They actually have a new stove on the way so next time you come cooking will be a breeze! Thank you for your review can't wait to have you back!

A Break in the Forest

Foxwood was as described, sitting in a nice, private location, surrounded by trees. The carport was very helpful for shade and rain cover. The inside of the property is clean and well- maintained. We have used Best of Canaan several times and the service has always been good. We would recommend Foxwood as a clean and cozy location for activities in the area. It served as an excellent base for our hikes in the Nature Conservancy & on Dolly Sods. We would stay at Foxwood again in the future.

Nice House But...

Best of Canaan is the place we always go to for rental properties. They are friendly and helpful in every way and we have always had a great experience with BoC! The Foxwood house is very nice inside and in a quiet part of Timberland which is very nice. Quiet and dark at night. The space is great, but after you spend some time inside it becomes clear that this home is strictly a rental property and the homeowners don't seem concerned about the condition of the items they provide for their renters. Everything in the kitchen cabinets had a film on it, some stuff was rusty, and clearly very old. the Finish was coming off of the white plates in the cabinet. Glasses needed to be cleaned before use. The oven temperature control is broken and it is very difficult to increase the temperature past 350. There is an open crack on the button and I don't know if there is any risk of shock. The sheets on the one bed we used were very dingy, unless that is the color of the sheets. Pillows were badly stained and there was a urine stain on the mattress. Would have chosen a different had we known that. The couches are very old and not very comfortable. Other than the above, the house was clean. We had a wonderful time exploring all that Canaan Valley has to offer. I know it's not the most expensive house, but we have stayed in cheaper rentals and things have been much better.

Very Relaxing Weekend

The house was great. There were three of us and a dog. The house is in great shape and very cozy with a big kitchen and lounge area. The cold temps and snow kept us from enjoying the deck but it would be a great house to return to in warmer weather. We went during a very snowy weekend and 4WD was an absolute must.

We had a great stay at Foxwood. Very family-friendly and dog-friendly. The back deck being gated off was a plus for both kids and dogs and made it easy to let the dog out without worrying about anything. Definitely need a 4wd vehicle when it snows, but our driveway was plowed immediately and the roads were generally pretty clear. The house was well equipped, the wood stove was really cozy, and we loved our stay. The only improvements I'd make is having some more split kindling on hand for starting fires and the hot tub wasn't as hot as it could have been but we definitely enjoyed it nonetheless.

A Great Getaway!

My family, dog, and I had an amazing stay at Foxwood. We visited off-season and enjoyed ourselves at state parks, unwinding in the hot tub and making ourselves to home in front of the fire. The cabin was tucked in the middle of nowhere, about 25 minutes from the nearest town. It was adorned with a ton of foxes of all varieties, line in tapestries, statues, stuffed animals, and was relatively easy to find and navigate. While the cabin was well stocked with appliances, dish and cookware, towels, paper good, firewood and cleaning supplies, we found the furniture to be a little uncomfortable for sleeping and relaxing. I would recommend bringing your own pillows, and even a sleeping bag if you have a bad back. Overall, the cabin was clean enough, but there were some off-putting misses like the 12" in diameter cobweb on a rafter, a colony of dead flies in a high window ledge, and a thick layer of grease on the range control panel. The rental company was STELLAR, however. They were always available for questions, accommodated a very late arrival, had a very clear contract and fee structure, and beyond that were very personable. Given the price point, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a homey hideaway without too high of an expectation for luxury. We would certainly visit again.

Another great mountain experience!

Our family spent a week at Foxwood and had a great time! We loved being up in the woods in a rather secluded area and especially enjoyed listening to the birds and seeing some wildlife. The deck was wonderful for this and we spent a lot of our time out there. The house had everything we needed! The staff at Best of Canaan has always been more than helpful. We highly recommend them!

AWESOME HOUSE - EVERYTHING YOU NEED!!!

Came here with 4 friends for 3 nights and we had the best vacation ever. We hit both timberline and cannan valley ski resorts both behing less than a ten min drive away. The house is far back in the woods with a nice view of the back mountain side and very peaceful. Waking up in the morning throwing a log in the fire place and enjoying a cup of coffee in the hot tub gets no better than this. The house has multiple xxl bean bag chairs that are perfect for chilling by the fire.
The kitchen is set up nice and the living room is very open. The house is big enough for everyone to enjoy and we had plenty of wood. zero complaints and would stay here again next year.

Foxwood for Thanksgiving 2016

The weather was cold and wet, making cozy Foxwood the perfect place to stay. The woodstove was warm, the hot tub hot, and the home was very comfortable overall. The house was clean. The walk around the lakes was peaceful. Only other comment is that the dishwasher does not work well, so recommend you wash your own dishes by hand. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.

Overall the place is great! Loved, loved to site on that back porch ,like your on tree house! It just needed more towel to use outside & Jacuzzi needs a lit' TLC ! Keep an eye out for the bedding after animal been around - they may need some more attention ! Good winter getaway
The house was pretty good, and a big plus being dog friendly for my family vacation. Definite a funky kitchen design, being kitchen and mudroom combined. Covered parking area was great during the snow. Had some issues with the hot tub, it was not heating properly (errors showing up on control) and was not clean at the start. Called it in and they sent someone to come look at it. The spa tech mentioned that the tub was under powered for use in the winter temps, and it was in fact unreliable during our stay. He also mentioned that they had replaced the water before our arrival, which is simply not possible. We have a hot tub at home, and I have seen 6 month old water look better than this did. Pet peeve of mine is being told things that aren't true.
Overall it was a good trip and we enjoyed our stay, and all the things were fairly minor. Thanks!

This was a family getaway for Thanksgiving. We had never been to Canaan Valley and I was thrilled to go and "relax and do nothing". The Best of Canaan office was very nice. Although I did most of my stuff online I did talk to them a couple times about my rental. We checked in late after hours and it was easy and convenient to access the key. Check out was also simple. When we picked up our key and map we got a little scared because the map looked as if all of the houses were on top of each other and that's not what we were hoping for. However, they were not. It is in a gated community but you can't see another house from Foxwood. It is out in the woods and very secluded and private. Beautiful lot. The house itself was adorable. The kitchen was more stocked than I had anticipated. We cooked Thanksgiving dinner there so I took a lot of kitchen supplies. I did not need to take anything except for a roaster for the turkey. I definitely over packed. The wood fire place was nice and we had it going the entire time we were there. The open floor concept was nice. The hot tub was a hit with the kids. Even when it was 38 degrees first thing in he morning. The back deck was huge and beautiful. The view from the deck is amazing. Tons of deer every day right at your fingertips. The bedrooms were cozy. Beds were somewhat comfy (for a vacation rental). The overall house was clean. I Still can't get over how stocked the kitchen and the rest of tree house was. I used mine of my own garbage bags laundry soap wood soap etc. loved this house and if we ever go back to Canaan Valley I will definitely stay at Foxwood and use Best of Canaan.

Perfect place to escape the summer heat.
Beautiful cottage with access to plenty of hiking trails when the weather is nice or just sit and read a book on the gorgeous deck while watching hummingbirds feed. We definitely will be back when it's time to "recharge" our batteries again.

Thanksgiving Gateway at the Cabin

A group of college students from DC decided to spent an affordable amount of reservation cost. We originally planned to return home on Tuesday but we decided to stay one more night which wrap up five days and four nights. We stayed in the cabin from Saturday toward Wednesday. This house was filled with full of welcoming-feeling which we never expected. We as college student dedicated into ourselves by given a best behavior which we paid respected to Canaan Valley Cabin Rental Agency. We are all from southern states which we cannot afford to fly back home for the thanksgiving break but we discovered Foxwood which exceeded our expectations and applaud with all of the organization and preparation of our arrival. I spent our times by hiking three different state parks, night bar, cave, last and not least hot tub! Bedding and comfort zone was amazing. There're maximum for 10 people but it should be more than 18 people. We slept random place every singe night. Aside all of the positivity, I wish one thing it's will offer our stay is ski-resort should be open a little bit early. We are hoping to return the location and spend a week at the Foxwood next year!

Foxwood was the perfect 4 day getaway. It is quiet, private, and clean. The kitchen is spacious, the deck is the highlight of the cabin, and the hot tub was clean and ready for us upon arrival. The rug in the living room is the only thing I would say needs replaced. The access to the Monongahela and Wildlife Refuge is excellent. Highly recommended.

Our Recent Getaway to Foxwood
My husband had just returned home from Afghanistan and we took our 2 dogs and 4 year old son for a few quite days in beautiful WV. It was everything we needed it to be. The house is perfect and clean. There was only two things I noticed that I thought could be fixed. The carpet in the living room has a sour smell but only if you are down on the ground like when I was playing with my son can you notice it. This happens to a lot of places that have a ski season so I wasn't surprised by it probably just needs to be steam cleaned or tossed. And the gas grill was not in any condition to use. But there is a charcoal grill so we didn't go without. I plan on bringing my entire family back for ski season and they are picky about where we stay and I think they will love it. We were very sad to leave. My favorite part was laying in the hot tub at night and looking up at all the stars I've never seen so many. It really was a perfect few days. 🙂

Great cabin

We stayed for a long Easter weekend. Our primary purpose was to escape life for a while in a quiet, secluded cabin and spend time reading. This property mostly fit the bill.
The cabin is well outfitted, clean, and comfortable.
The sofas proved a little less than ideal for long hours reading, but were improved by using the pillows in the house for extra padding.
The two seat rocking adirondack chair on the deck, with supplied cushions, was very comfortable.
The king-size master bedroom bed was comfortable.
We did not use the hot tub.
The area was very quiet. The house is well separated from the neighboring properties, so you have lots of privacy. It also seemed that there were very few people staying in the community. I took a walk down to the lake in the valley and only saw three deer, two geese, a golden eagle, and a few other critters... no people whatsoever.
We would return if the area were closer to Washington, DC, but the 3 1/2 hour drive is a disincentive to return to the Davis area.

Great House, Great Location

We absolutely loved this house! The house was clean, tastefully decorated and fully stocked. The location was secluded and beautiful. The hot tub was a perfect end to an 11-mile hike through Dolly Sods. The rental agency was friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful location and stay
The location is absolutely breathtaking. We explored the surrounding park but quickly realized that the property we were staying on was better than the surrounding park! The house is incredibly secluded, we couldn't even spot the nearest neighbors. The house itself is beautiful. The condition of the property showed some wear and tear, but this didn't detract from the experience at all. The hot tub was finicky. For the first two days it wouldn't go about 94 which is not that warm, especially for October. It magically worked on the last day and was able to get quite warm. The deck and surrounding nature are great, the pictures here don't do it justice. It is about a 20 minute drive to the nearest grocery store so it is the perfect amount of seclusion. The house is deep in a gated community so you feel like you are really going to the edge of civilization.
Thanks for taking time to post a review. Please keep in mind that our maintenance staff is always happy to help with a finicky hot tub. We are just a phone call away...24 hours a day.

Relaxing TIme
My husband and I had a relaxing four days in the Canaan Valley. It was our first trip to the area. We were there during the peak of the leaves changing so it was absolutely beautiful. The house location was great--we felt like we were in the woods by ourselves. We could not see any houses from the deck and very rarely were there any cars on the road. The house met all of our needs. The kitchen was well stocked and there was nothing that we needed that was not available to us. Highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing time away.

Perfect family getaway

We were completely "wowed" from moment one at Foxwood. The house was immaculately clean, smelled fresh, and was equipped with anything we could possibly need. Saying the kitchen is well stocked is a total understatement. The place is nicely decorated and had plenty of room for 3 adults and 2 kids. The deck off the back was one of our favorite hangouts. All of the beds were so comfortable and had plenty of pillows. The private access to Dolly Sods at the top of the community was a definite bonus and we highly recommend checking it out. We are already planning trips back. Foxwood was just what we needed for a nice relaxing 5 night trip. The only negative - and after such a completely lovely trip I didn't want to put a bad thing on here - was the hot tub was quite quirky, only working about 1/4 of the time. Best of Canaan would have sent someone up but we told them it was unnecessary during our stay. Everyone at Best of Canaan was amazingly friendly and helpful with suggesting things to see and do. So happy with our whole experience!

Birthday get-a-away

We spent a long weekend in Foxwood for my son's 16th birthday. It snowed non-stop the whole time we were there, but the hot jacuzzi and warm fire place made it nice and cozy for all of us. Perfect weather to go skiing, and the roads were plowed for easy access. We are planning to make another trip in the future to stay at this charming house.

Best of Canaan a professional organization.
Property was as advertised except for the hot tub problem. This units tub has an issue with the jets which would resullt in the unit shutting down. After about an hour cool down you could hit the breaker and fire it back up....but who wants that hassle. Otherwise a great place.

Foxwood Rental

The place was amazing. The location is very secluded - but we didn't see any wildlife on the property. The house is immaculate. Of course, there were mouse droppings but you are in the woods. Everything was well stocked - didn't need to bring much. Other guests had left charcoal (so did we) and there were little things like saran wrap and baggies etc. My family was amazed at the place. Thanks for a great stay in a beautiful setting.

Lovely Getaway From the City

We stayed at Foxwood for a week, and had a lovely time. The view from the deck is nice, the hot tub is heaven, and the fireplace added to the cozy ambiance. The house had everything one could ask for, including an espresso machine and coffee grinder, a variety of wine openers, and enough kitchen wear to cook for and serve a small army! As always, Donna and Amy at Best of Canaan were a pleasure to work with and had great suggestions for both activities and dining in that area. It was a lovely escape, and we didn't want to leave!

Everything was great for us. From the staff who booked our stay to the location of the property and a beautiful deck with a hot tub which was already running and warm once we arrived. Great fireplace and enough wood to burn which was awesome after the hot tub during the snow. Will visit again. No doubt!!

A visit on the 3rd weekend of October
The temp range was ~40 at night and ~60 in the day. Unfortunately, wind and rain had removed most of the leaves from the trees the week before our stay, but it was still a very nice visit. We had a great time. Everything at the house was in excellent condition. It's a very cozy place to stay with lots of things to do close by.

Great weekend getaway
This wasn't our first stay at Foxwood, but our first with Best of Canaan. Great experience all around and a wonderful weekend getaway. Foxwood is a nice cabin and one of our favorites on Old Timberline.
In case you're concerned about a previous comment mentioning mice... we saw no droppings, just a few set traps.

Wonderful home,VERYComfortable beds. Layout was great.Kitchen had everything you could ask for. Had a little trouble with the hot tub, didn't seem to warm up too well.Mouse trap in kitchen was full! mouse droppings seen in the BR!!
