Family weekend

We had a great time this past weekend at Timberline. Conditions were great and the house was accommodating,clean, comfortable and had plenty of room for 7 people. We appreciated the snow being pushed from the driveway and the walkways being shoveled ( for future reference, clear a better path to hot tub and gas grill). Staff ( thanks Kat) was friendly and answered all questions. We will be back!

A perfect place for our group

This house was perfect for our group. It has a ton of space for everyone to relax and have fun. The hot tub has plenty of room for multiple people and the outdoor area is very pretty as we got to watch deer and birds while relaxing in the hot tub. The game room is great too-perfect for hanging out and shooting pool or just watching a football game.

Such a great place to stay

This house exceeded my expectations. House was big enough to give us all space but not so big it felt cold. Plenty of supplies (trash bags, soap, trash bags etc.) . Kitchen was well stocked. Couldn’t get the regular coffee maker to work but there was a keurig. Hot tub under the stars was lovely. Great deck area. Sunroom was perfect on a rainy day.
Pool room was a great plus for us. Love the privacy with no neighbors in the back.

Bears Retreat

We have rented houses in this area for over 20 years including this one twice before. We’ve always liked the location, space, and the ability to bring a pet. With that being said, our overall experience last weekend was poor. The house is in need of a serious deep cleaning, multiple maintenance issues, including a hot tub that was cold the entire time. Although the realty company was polite, the $65 refund hardly covers the disappointment. Very sad because it’s a beautiful house overall in a special place for my family, but we will not trust to rent again.
Best of Canaan and our valued owners do everything within our power to make sure our guests have a wonderful experience. Unfortunately, in the harsh climate occasionally problems happen that cannot be corrected within the time frame of a rental visit. This was the unfortunate case with the failure of a major hot tub component at this home. Because of this, the hot tub fee was returned and, to prevent future issues, the owners elected to replace the existing hot tub with an updated Jacuzzi model that is installed and ready for future guests. The experience and placement of this hot tub, backed only by the pristine refuge and a canopy of stars, is unique and we are sorry that it became unavailable for this guest. As for the other comments we are not sure what to say other than our maintenance employees responded but found all items to be in full working order. We also feel that we have an excellent cleaning team. Unfortunately, it seems that the hot tub part failure created a disappointment that has now been addressed.

Ski vacation

Bears retreat is a great location and we can bring our Bernedoodles.
Plenty of space for our gang! The oven has some issues with maintaining and reaching desired temperature.
We have already booked the house for next year.

A little slice of heaven

This home backs up to the reserve so it is very private and the view of the stars from the hot tub is out of this world. The Pool table is a lil rough but still worked well enough. Only real complaint is it could stand a good cleaning..I had to do the windows myself so we could enjoy the view. But I would definitely stay again!!
This is our 8th vacation in the area but the 1st with this company, gotta say the staff couldn't have been any nicer, they will be our go to from now on as we definitely never received that kinda service from the previous rental company. Highly recommend!!

Bear's Retreat

The house was very nice and in a very quiet location. We had a couple of small issues and reported them. They were very responsive. The one thing I found was the kitchen was not well stocked with pots and pans. I like to cook but was able to make do with what was available plus what I took with me from home. There was plenty of glassware and other dishes.

Perfect for a large family!

This home was perfect for our family of 7! Everyone had plenty of space! The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking meals. Beds were very comfortable and everyone slept well. The kids enjoyed the games and the hot tub. We also enjoyed seeing deer in the backyard each morning and evening! We can't wait to come back!

Relaxing, Great Location

We stayed here for four nights in early December. The location is perfect for the ski lodge. It’s walkable to the lodge if you are ok with carrying your gear that far. We didn’t have ski weather when we visited but we enjoyed taking walks and visiting local areas. The house has a great layout. The sun porch and game room were great. We really enjoyed the hot tub at night looking at the stars. We were there during a meteor shower and it was amazing. The home needs a deep cleaning though. We also experienced an ant problem during our stay. The warm weather really brought them out, I think. There was a hazard that we discovered around the hot tub, unfortunately. My son hopped out of the hot tub and punctured the bottom of his foot on a rusty screw that looked to be a tie down that was no longer used. We assume it was covered by the step ladder to get into the hot tub, but we had moved it not realizing what was underneath. Quick trip to the Davis ER (we were expecting much longer wait) for an updated tetanus shot, some antibiotic ointment and band aids and he was feeling better quickly. The house wifi was spotty. I think we were able to use it maybe five hours or so during our stay. An updated router would probably do wonders. We would stay here again, but having these issues addressed would make this home perfect.

Nice property

Accurately described, adequate space for 5 adults and one infant plus dog. Great service from the property management.
Recommend adding a drain cover for the garbage disposal and having the jets in the hot tub repaired. Also, the double bed in the third upstairs room is slanted.

Nice vacation rental close to Blackwater and Canaan Valley!

As a whole, it was a nice vacation house with everything that we needed. It was 5 adults, a baby, and our dogs. The house did have a very musty odor that we think may have been from the carpet but subsided after we had some fresh air and air circulation. The whole place could definitely use a deep clean (dusty fans, very dirty sun room floor, not vacuumed well, deep clean the showers, etc.) We would stay here again but I don't think it would be our first choice. I know it can be hard with a pet friendly location but there needs to be more focus on the cleanliness. The house itself has amazing potential and is nicely laid out, but some upgrades could do the place wonders! The hot tub was nice but some of the jets don't work and it didn't get very warm. The back porch was nice and the woodsy view was a plus.

Nice house

House was nice. Furniture and beds were comfortable. It is at the end of a quiet street. Really liked the gated deck on the back. The second sitting area upstairs is open to the main floor so kids could have their space but not be isolated.

Great stay at Bear's Retreat

We enjoyed our stay at Bear's Retreat in early March 2021. The hot tub was a definite plus, as well as the numerous gas fireplaces (once you figure out how to turn them on). Super close to the base of Timberline. While the snow was melting while we were there, I imagine this would be a relatively easy location to access, even during times of peak snow.

Great stay at Timberline

Very nice house with easy access compared to some other areas. Everything was well maintained and clean. There’s a nice view into part of CVWR from the hot tub. The house is not very isolated, but still a quiet location. Easy to get to CV and nearby sights. Too bad it is not behind the gates to provide access to additional trails and scenery. Perfect Weekend Getaway

Our family had a great long weekend at Bear's Retreat. There were 7 of us and we never once felt like we were on top of each other. Plenty of space. The pool table was a huge hit! If you like puzzles there are a good amount of options. The kitchen was very well stocked with pots, pans, tons of utensils, griddles, chopping boards, china. House has an initial supply of toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, coffee filters and dishwasher tabs so you may have to run out to restock depending on your length of stay so keep that in mind. Plenty of towels. Hot tub was also and big hit and if you are into the stars - sitting out on the back deck at night is a must. Especially for city people like us, seeing the sky with no city lights is amazing. The neighbors were very friendly as well. WiFi was surprisingly perfect. The note on the fridge says no password is needed but you do and you'll find that info on the router located in the loft area. Flat screen TV in the living room and the loft area. Pool room and a couple bedrooms had older style tvs. There is a VCR and DVD player in the house as well. House was in a great area close to Blackwater Falls, horseback riding and the little town of Davis.

Only a couple minor issues: there are no window treatments in the living room/dining room area which to us again coming from the city when it gets dark out we don't like people looking in. The shower in the master bath needs some repair - the grout is dirty. The pictures of the outside of the house are obviously older - the front of the house is not really kept up the way the picture depicts it and the back where the hot tub is - the marsh area comes right up to the hot tub deck.

Overall it was a great house and we would definitely come back. Only 3 hours from the DC area which made it a perfect location for a quick getaway.

Fun family vacation

Our family of 7 was very comfortable in the home and found the location and amenities ideally suited to the broad age range of our children (8-23). We enjoyed the easy access to hiking trails during the day and enjoyed the hot tub, pool table and porch in the evenings. We would absolutely return again!

A lovely home

We come every year on the last week of December. Home was well appointed with a bonus of a large rec room with pool table. House was tastefully appointed and well furnished. Master bedroom was large and comfortable. Largest upstairs bedroom lacked any closet space which was awkward. Hot tub was erratic. Kitchen was convenient with good person-circulation. A nice roomy 'sun-room' in back. All-in-all we would choose this house again for a return trip. Of course, management was outstanding. Good people.

Getaway wedding with family

My now husband and I loved the look of the house online before we rented... This weekend was for us,our three kids and each of our parents,grandparents and our close couple friends to stay and for our wedding. Not everyone stayed but was so easy to find the ones that didn't could easily come and go. It was very clean, spacious and the pool table was a huge hit! Well stocked with linens and towels. Only thing we would recommend, bring some sharp knives and serving spoons if you are doing a big dinner as we did. The ladies at the Realtor office were wonderful! We would definitely recommend this house and have already decided to stay again next year.

Fantastic Property
