It seems appropriate that Aaron Copeland included the melody of one of West Virginian’s favorite songs, Simple Gifts, in the score for his beloved composition Appalachian Spring. Named for the story of a spring celebration of 19th century American pioneers, this lovely one-story contemporary home is rich with one of the hardest to find yet simplest of gifts, peace and quiet. Relax and listen to the sounds of nature from the lovely deck or take a hike around the tranquil wooded area. Settle into vacation mode in front of the fireplace with that book or magazine you have been meaning to read for a while now. The night sky will be amazing from the comfort of the outdoor hot tub. There are no interruptions here unless you take a break to observe nature from the ceiling to floor windows. Don’t be surprised if everyone wants to help prepare meals thanks to the comfortable design of the extra excellent kitchen. While visiting Appalachian Spring you can completely unplug or enjoy free WIFI and cable TV. For the young at heart this rental also includes a PS3 game system.

Thanksgiving family stay

We enjoyed our stay. And the fireplace and LR/kitchen WERE GREAT! . Things to improve: there was no toilet paper, no paper towels, no dish soap, etc. , should be told to bring if there is none. There were spider nests /cobwebs everywhere, the table and other furniture needs work-and overall needs some general maintenance. Overall we had a fun trip and would stay again but with more supplies.

house worked fine for a group of 6 friends on a spring whitewater paddling trip (with some bonus xc skiing for those so inclined). comfortable layout, well stocked, everything worked with minimal glitches. good parking for 6 vehicles. we had a great stay

Bright, Spacious and well-equipped

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was very spacious. We were in a group of three couples and the layout provided plenty of privacy as well as being a great gathering spot. We loved the well-equipped kitchen, thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub. The living room was bright and sunny with a beautiful sectional that enabled us to all sit together comfortably. And a bonus gas fireplace. There were plenty of games, books and puzzles as well as tv and internet. The furniture was very nice, beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets and pillows. Would definitely stay here again!

It was a very nice house. I have been staying in the valley during the hunting season for 34 years and this rental did not disappoint. I would recommend it to others. The only issue we had was no cable TV for 2.5 days.

Peaceful getaway

Our family LOVED our time at Appalachian Spring! It was so quiet and peaceful. I really enjoyed cooking our meals with my daughter in the big kitchen! I love the high ceilings and large windows! Fishing with my kids was so much fun!The fish bite as soon as you cast your line which was great for my impatient 8 year old. My wonder family loved our time spent in Canaan Valley. We were all sad to leave, but we will definitely be back in the future!

Appalachian Spring Review

Appalachian Spring was a great rental experience overall. The house itself was well kept, very spacious and close to the Canaan Valley outdoor recreational activity locations. It was very spacious and well suited to a family or groups with need for seperate bedrooms/bathrooms and with lots of areas to congregate/lounge. It was a great stay and well worth it.

The place was clean, has washer dryer with detergent and a dish washer with soap so eating in and doing dishes was great and saved us money to do things like zip lining and white water rafting! I would definitely stay here again!

Family Ski Weekend
The house was beyond our expectations. It was clean and beautiful. Location was great for skiing at Timberline and Canaan Resort and we had a wonderful time. The staff at Best of Canaan are friendly and great to work with. They even mailed our son's favorite stuffed animal to us when we accidentally left it behind. 🙂 We will definitely be coming back.

Home Away from Home

This property was very comfortable for our family ski weekend! Family room was perfect for our super bowl party as was the kitchen. Bedrooms were quite roomy and having three bathrooms was very convenient. Being at the end of a cul-de-sac was very peaceful and private!

Among the best houses we’ve had in 25 or so visits. Nicely equipped kitchen, great master suite. Interesting layout. Clean hot tub. Slight annoying odor upon entering the house. Bedding not very comfortable. Bring your own pillows if you are a pillow snob. Water taste and smell slightly off. We used bottled water. I would think you will be overall pleased unless you cannot overlook anything.

Return visit just as good as the First Time!

Yet again, a lovely peaceful stay at Appalachian Spring. This time, we brought the whole family! It was the first time we had all been together for a long time and there was plenty of space for us all. The kitchen has everything (and more!) that I have at home and we spent the time relaxing, hiking and enjoying the peace and quiet. We couldn't access the wifi when we arrived, but the property management company sent someone immediately to fix it. All in all, another lovely stay.

The house was very nice they should have the cleaning crew clean the cobwebs and the spider webs off the deck. The garage smelled like dead mice ,there were a lot of traps in there but nobody emptied the traps, did not put my car in there.

Memories are made of this!

We had such a lovely stay in Appalachian Springs. The photos did not really show how beautiful the house is. The kitchen had everything you needed and we cooked delicious meals and had a BBQ on the grill. The bedrooms were comfortable, the surroundings were peaceful, we found many hikes and attractions not too far away and, each evening, when we returned, we relaxed in the hot tub and enjoyed a cocktail. Our sister-in-law will return to Scotland with many lovely memories!

This property was located at a cull-de-sac and wild-life surrounded us.
The house has a beautiful open floor plan for eating and relaxing as a family. The bed-rooms were comfortable in size and the furnishings simple and lovely. The master bedroom was amazing. Loved the simple decorative taste of the owners, and the entire floor plan. Will return again for an extended stay.

Nice House!!!

This house was very clean and well maintained. The level paved driveway was nice for the kids to ride their bikes. Kitchen is beautiful. Sectional in living room is extra large. Large deck in the back with nice hot tub, although a little small. It was nice to have the use of the garage. TVs in bedrooms and a pool table in the large living room would add to this very nice ranch home. The house, along with the gated community that includes lakes to fish, kayak, were wonderful! Would love to go back to this home. (MBR toilet had a little glitch...difficult to flush at times)

Nice house; Some trouble with roads

Let's start with the roads and then on to the good stuff. The neighborhood decided to spray the roads with soybean oil to keep down the dust during our stay. I suppose this worked, except the oil sticks to your car. And then to your shoes. And to your clothes if you aren't super careful. Their recommendation? Drive about 3 mph and then wash the car every time you go over the roads. Neither of these things are practical. You cannot wash off the soybean oil with anything other than serious hand scrubbing. A touchless car wash or a self-serve spray and wash doesn't do it. (we tried) Also, this stuff will destroy your car washing equipment at home.
I'd still recommend the house, but check to see if they're still oiling the roads and decide accordingly.
On to the good stuff!

The beds were comfortable and the hot tub is nice. (It's small - four people is definitely the MAX and your legs will be mingling with each other)

Christmas in Canaan
Our family of six adults and two children chose Appalachian Spring for the second consecutive year for our Christmas getaway. The layout of the house is great. There's plenty of room to cook, eat, and gather as well as space for quiet and privacy. There's lots nearby to keep all ages occupied. We skied at Canaan Valley, browsed the shops at Thomas, swam at CV Lodge, and enjoyed long walks in the neighborhood and around Spruce Lake. As before, we found the staff at Best of Canaan to be exceptionally friendly, efficient, and accommodating. We'll be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Appalachian Spring. It is spacious and inviting, tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and has plenty of storage space in the cabinets. The wraparound sofa in the living room is situated in front of the fireplace and can easily accommodate a dozen people comfortably. Beds are comfortable and bathrooms, roomy. The hot tub is small for a large crowd but was clean and comfortable. The lot is very private and quiet. We definitely plan to return in the future.

Much needed weekend getaway

The home is a very private and in a very nice location. The home is well appointed and has 4 large bedrooms, one being a very nice suite. The kitchen is large and has everything you'll need even you choose to make a gourmet meal. Hot tub is nice for 4 people, dinning and living room are spacous also. The only thing I would change would be to upgrade that small tv in the living room, If the weather is good there, most of your time will be spent outside enjoying the beauty but when it rains 3 out of the 4 days you need to watch a bigger screen. Would definitely rent from Best of Canaan again they do a great job.

Great Cozy Cabin

Took my family up here for a weekend get away. Great private location in a gated community. The beds were comfy, the hot tub was great, the kitchen was amazing, can't speak highly enough of the property. We had daily visits from deer which the kids loved. Nearby Davis has falls and outdoor activities and when your hungry several restaurants to eat at. Best of Canaan people were friendly and helpful. Will return.

Some time away from our home to the home at Appalachian Spring.

Overall we had a nice stay, the home had plenty of space for the 3 of us. That one queen bedroom needs to have a ceiling fan. We have a cat and could not bring it and had to leave him at Elkins in boarding for the week, he did not do very good, he missed us so much 🙁 would have loved to kept him there in his big cage/house in the garage so he could be close to us, would have not let him run loose at all in the house, I wish some of the homes would allow cats if we promised to not let them do damage.

Pleasurable Haven

The house was a pleasant retreat. The layout of the place was great with plenty of space. The kitchen was exceptional with all the upgrades. The family certainly enjoyed the large dining table as we all sat around it eating, chatting and sharing many fun stories. The great room was a place for relaxation and taking in the colorful, picturesque outside scenery with the large floor-to-ceiling windows. The spacious master suite was incredible. The whole place was tastefully done. The only negative was that there could have been more than one TV. It would have really convenient to have had TV's in the bedrooms, especially in the master suite.
I want to also commend the rental staff for their personable and caring ways in accommodating our situations as our needs changed.

Weekend in Appalachian Spring

Four couples spent a long weekend. We had a great time, despite a rainy weekend. The house was very nice. However, it needs a few things in order to be suitable for eight guests: more coffee mugs, larger trash bags with ties, a DVD player, labels on the myriad light switches, a salad bowl. Also, something needs to be done to improve the water pressure in the bathrooms. Having said all that, with a few little fixes, this is a terrific house in a splendid, remote location.
