Nice Get Away

This is our second time renting Lazy S. We love this cabin. Excellent location to a trail head and close by the lake. We love the upgrades that were done. Kids really liked the bunk beds. Our dogs enjoyed the yard and the trail. Clean and well stocked with kitchen equipment. The driveway and road out front made excellent sled run.

Peaceful Getaway

We spent 4 nights at Lazy S. We had everything we needed there. We actually closed off the two extra bedrooms and baths and had plenty of room. It snowed while we were there and was very quiet nestled in the back of Old Timberline. Our dog loved the fenced yard and walks in any direction from the house.

A Perfect Stay for Us and Our Labradoodle

The Lazy S provided a perfect location ... walkable to the lake, a fenced area in front for our dog as well as a screened-in porch and back deck, keeping our Labradoodle active and happy. A well-equipped kitchen along with lovely art and comfortable furnishings made for an ideal R&R...leaving humans and canine very satisfied!

Almost Heaven

My third stay at this property and have already reserved for next year. It's in a perfect location, secluded and private, yet close to some incredible outdoor adventures. The home is appointed very nicely, beds are very comfortable, truly a "home away from home". The fenced yard is a great bonus for those of us traveling with pets. I fell asleep numerous times, sitting on the front porch in the rocking chairs. So peaceful and quiet. Great for the soul. I would and have recommended this house to others. You can't go wrong staying at the Lazy S.

A great stay at Lazy S

We were very happy with Lazy S. House is not huge but the layout with MBR and bath on one side and the other bedrooms/bathrooms on the opposite side was nice for our group. Furniture was comfortable. Water pressure in showers was great. Paper towels, dish soap, bar soap, etc. was all provided. Also dig crates and fishing gear that we did not use. Location at the back of Old Timberline was nice - secluded, right next to Wildlife Refuge trailhead and close to Sand Run Lake. Fenced yard was the best feature as we had a dog with us. We will most likely return!

Great home away from home

Wonderful dog friendly cabin

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lazy S. The cabin was spotless and stocked with all the essential, even doggo food and bowls. Further, we were able to take a walk in the woods behind the cabin and it looked beautiful and pristine. The location is excellent as well because it is just a short drive from Timberline Hill.

This was our 2nd stay at Lazy S and our 5th time renting thru Best of Canaan.
Lazy S is perfect for us. It has everything we need. It's comfortable and clean and we liked the kitchen updates. The location is great - very quiet and with easy access to the refuge trails right up the road. It's also an easy drive to the top of the mountain with access to Dolly Sods. And most importantly the fenced in front yard for our dog!
Highly recommend Mama Mia's restaurant next to Best of Canaan.

Great house, relaxing vacation

Very enjoyable stay, house is well equipped. Particularly like the supplied dog crates. Won't have to pack one next time. Close to all the great sightseeing locations. Loved sitting on the front porch in the rocking chair as I read my book. Will definitely return.

Perfect Getaway in the Mountains

I love the Canaan area and frequent rentals in the Timberline gated community area. It makes it very convenient for lake fun and private access to Dolly Sods wilderness. This house was very nice and convenient for lake access. It was private minus traffic coming down the street to the lake/houses back in the area. The place itself was super open, roomy and perfect for a pet to come along. Our dog loved the gated yard! Definitely would go back. The house was beautiful, convenient, reasonable priced and great for a dog.

The Lazy S is an outstanding property - much nicer than its pictures. It is fully equipped and has a large comfortable master. The TV service includes Roku channels like Netflix which was a nice surprise. The fenced yard was great for our dog; she loved romping in the snow. Wonderful stay that exceeded expectations!

Our family of 4 (2 couples) and 2 dogs stayed for a week Sept-Oct 4th. We were very pleased with the condition of the property, cleanliness and location to Sand Run Lake. We were pleasantly surprised by the propane fire pit on the deck and extremely pleased with the comfort of the beds (both master and Queen). The back deck had a dog gate available for enclosing the space which was another wonderful surprise as the dogs were able to enjoy evenings on the deck with us without tie outs! The fenced yard was much appreciated as well and the cute dog sculpture is a welcome sight for dog lovers :). A short walk to the lake AND trails will make this a repeat stay for sure. Thanks to the owners for sharing their lovely home for a much needed vacation!

Clean, Quiet & Comfortable

We spent a week at Lazy S and enjoyed our stay! We loved walking the dog to the pond at the end of the road and also having the fenced yard. There is also a long trail at the corner of Lakeview & Sunfish. The master bed was very comfortable. Water pressure was good. Plenty of towels. Knives weren't sharp, but otherwise the kitchen was well stocked. I drank the water all week (well) and it was pretty good. We called the property manager when we discovered the grill needed attention and they were very helpful, came out that same day. The house is about 5 miles off the main highway and very private. Our favorite activities were Still Hollow Spirits, Blackwater Falls, dining at Farm Up Table, and music at The Purple Fiddle.

A great place to unwind

I selected this house because it was pet friendly and had a fenced yard. This house has so much more to offer. The floorplan is great. The house is appointed nicely, the bed very comfortable. I loved reading while sitting in the rocking chair on the front porch. Lots of wildlife to see. The realty company was very helpful during my stay. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

Lazy S-perfect for a stay in Canaan Valley

Lazy S is in a quiet secluded location within an easy walk to the wildlife refuge trails. The house has an open living/dining area with skylights so it feels spacious, yet there is privacy for the bedrooms at opposite ends of the house. The kitchen and the rest of the house are well stocked with everything you would need. The management company, Best of Canaan, keeps the property very well maintained and their staff is friendly and helpful. This is a wonderful area if you like hiking and the outdoors, also close to Dolly Sods and state parks.

Stayed four nights for our 37 wedding anniversary

We had a really nice time staying in Old Timberline, the king size bed was very comfortable along with the big bathroom. We didn’t have any issues at all with the rental house. **a note though, the gas grill was about empty so I just fixed the burgers inside** no big deal really because we only stayed 4 nights and ate out a couple days. The kitchen had everything you needed (I fixed breakfast every morning). The rental house had plenty of extras, ROKU TV with Netflix and Amazon. Extra trash bags, TP, etc. hand soap, hand sanitizer. We are looking forward for our next visit to Old Timberline and Best of Canaan Realty is the best.

The rental was lovely, with renovations we had not enjoyed in previous visits to the property (4 priors). Clean, fresh, indoor to outdoor enjoyable. Dog fencing a plus for our border collie/family pet. Weather was not so great, but we appreciated the inside experience even more. Location to Sand Run Lake terrific. Love Canaan Valley. Loyal visitors and guests to the valley.

Pleasant trip with the family

We had a wonderful time during our stay- a snow day made it all that much more special . Location is wonderful and quaint- only recommendation would be to upgrade some of the kitchen appliances that were not in full working condition. We would return for sure.

Relaxing Getaway

Amazing place!

Lazy S is a beautiful home. The owners have made it a place where I would love to live! Paintings on the walls, beautiful crockery displayed in the rooms, and comfy furniture. This home is beautifully maintained and the layout is great! Although you cannot see the lake from the house, it is only a short walk to it. Two times we went down to the lake before it was dark, and saw deer grazing, running and playing, and ducks at the pond. The tree colors were beautiful, what a wonderful place to view God's creation. The only main problem we had was the oven was not working, but after I phoned Best of Canaan office, someone came and repaired it. They were very helpful. Thank you for letting us have the opportunity to live in you house for awhile. Any chance there can be a hot tub added? My husbands wish list item! Hope to visit again soon! My daughter said it was the nicest place we've stayed at. (We've visited Canaan at least once a year for quite awhile!) Bragging to my relatives about this beautiful place! Note: finding an eat-in restaurant can be a problem because of Covid-19 . But its still possible to find some.

Great getaway

The house was a nice getaway after cancelling our big vacation plans.

The house was beautiful and had plenty of space for my family of 6 and our dogs.

We had a water pressure issue because of a clogged filter but it was resolved quickly.

We highly recommend and will visit again!

The house is fantastic- the location, general condition, convenience. My only negative comment is the cleaning prior to our arrival. The kitchen table was sticky, the floor was dirty, and the doormats were still up on the chairs. Otherwise it was fantastic. I would highly recommend it.

We are so sorry some things were missed! A quick phone call to us and it would have been made right. We hope you will come back to see us again.

Updated decor

Really enjoyed the new fence in the front for the dogs. Updated decor was nice. New bed was really comfortable. Little disappointed with no hot tub. Great location, like being in a gated community. Kitchen was well supplied. Screened in sunroom was great for meals and enjoying nature. No a/c but fans were great, never too hot. Grill needs replaced, won’t heat enough to cook on. Lock to sunroom from house was very difficult to operate, needs maintenance. Third year staying at Lazy S, would stay again.

Working with Best of Canaan is always of very good experience. The 'Lazy S' is not updated. The furniture is old and uncomfortable, the tiles in the kitchen are cracked. The overall atmosphere is just tired looking. I will work with 'Best of Canaan' again but am not likely to come back to this property.

Nice house

Comfy set up all around in Lazy S. The layout of the house is great. We enjoyed the hot tub and fireplace and were grateful our pup could join us. Sheets and towels lovely.

We had paper towels, TP, and found some spices in the cabinet (thank you!).

I do wish the kitchen outfitting was refreshed as we cooked in a lot (knives dull, too few bowls, glass casserole dishes needed).

We did have one fantastic dinner out at Whitegrass;highly recommend!

While Canaan was short on snow during our visit, we were glad we had 4-wheel drive to get to the house as it’s very far back in (tho only about 20 minutes to the ski area or Davis). The area is beautiful with great walking trails and lakes just mi Utes away from the house.

Very peaceful and pet friendly

Loved this rental. It was the perfect location. Very pet friendly. Best of Canaan were wonderful to work with. They went out of their way helping us during Hurricane Florence. Gave us additional days than our original dates because we couldn't make it back home due to the flooding. Highly recommend this rental and Best of Canaan. Thank you, Miss Donna!!

Lazy S for reunion weekend

Loved the location. We were lucky it wasn’t too hot for our summer stay (no a/c). Good breeze and ceiling fans were great. Clean and well stocked. Screened in porch was nice for breakfast and sitting with our dogs. The floor plan accommodated our needs with 2 families. The lock on the door to the screened porch was hard to operate. Hot tub worked well. Would stay again.

Just a few FYIs - we had a dead animal in the toilet when we arrived.
The wood was soooooo wet it was very difficult to get it to burn.
We had to buy batteries for the TV remotes we could find (some remotes are missing) and the TVs are way outdated.

Everything was great. The Best of Canaan managers are warm, friendly and helpful. The house was well prepared for our stay. We had read reviews that said that it could do with an update - painting and furniture. However, we enjoyed our time in the cabin. Roaring fire, comfy sofa and chair. Our thoughts upon leaving - don't sweat the small stuff. Great venue for our family Thanksgiving.

Another Great Vacation in the Mountains

We stayed at Lazy S for a week for our biannual fishing vacation. There wasn't much water for fishing but we could not have picked a better week weather-wise for vacation. Beautiful sunshine during the day and cooler nights that made a fire and hot tub an added bonus for our trip. This was our first time staying at Lazy S. The house suited our purposes. There were a few things that would have improved our experience. The hot tub kept overheating and would turn off. This happened 3 times during the week we were there and we had the temp set at 103. We googled the error message and were able to fix it easily. However, it is something the owners may want to take into consideration. The furniture in the Living Room is not very comfortable and appeared to be old and well worn. We ended up bringing in a couple of camp chairs for additional seating as there was only seating for 4 people. The property would benefit overall with a fresh coat of paint and some minor touch-ups here and there. The back deck was wonderful for sitting outside and relaxing in the afternoon sun. The beds were rather firm but after the second night, we adjusted fine. The house is in close proximity to one of the lakes inside the gated property and we took a lovely walk around the lake one afternoon. Saw a bald eagle circling above Rock N' Laurel. Overall, we had a good trip. As always, the staff at Best of Canaan are truly the best of Canaan. We highly recommend their services to anyone considering a vacation in this little piece of heaven!

Very spacious and clean. Everything was in working order. The worst I could say is that a broom would be useful as the sweeper is awkward. One level was great. Would return and recommend to others.

Relaxing stay at the Lazy S

A very nice secluded location, some trails within walking distance of the cabin. Enjoyed day trips to Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, Cass Scenic Railroad. Enjoyed the hot tub.

Summer - August 2016

We are a family of 4, and spent a week here in August 2016. The house is a bit worn, but no worse for the wear. It is nestled in the woods at the north end of the Timberline Resort community. It borders the National Wildlife Refuge, and there is a trail hear nearby that takes you into the Refuge. The house is also close to Sand Lake, and there's a nice trail that goes around the lake. Horse stables are off the main road and offer trail rides up into the Dolly Sods wilderness area. It is a magnificent summertime setting. The house is clearly a year-round rental, as the kitchen supplies were very limited, as well as a odd mix of plastic and ceramic dishes. i.e., no foil or wrap, no sponges, and a short supply of dishwasher soap and trash bags. The best part of the house was the hot tub on the back deck!

The pictures do not do it justice. When we arrived, the house seemed small, but it was late at night, but we were happy to be there. We walked in and the floor plan is open and inviting. The décor is comfy and homey, but not in a commercial way. The kitchen was well stocked with utensil, dishes and cookware. The peace and quiet is unlike anything you get in the city. It is truly a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of life. The kids had a great time seeing the wildlife and a clear view of the stars. The entire time from reserving to handing in the keys was painless and done with a smile. We will be coming back.

Family Getaway

We had a marvelous time- All of my sons currently live in Charlotte, NC and we live in Michigan- Every year i pic an unknown spot for us all to meet in January. we celebrate the holidays we missed together and winter birthdays. The house was perfect- we enjoyed the hot tub and the fireplace too! Weather was cold and snowy!! 🙂
Some of the previous reviews were negative in regards to the house needing painting- etc. Well, when people come stay at your place and do not respect the property- you will have that- We loved the space, decor and items provided. Thanks for everything!

Wonders of Winter

We were amazed at the wonders of winter during our stay. We watched the clouds dump snow and crystals on the tops of the mountains while the rest of the fields and everything stayed dry. What a spectacular view. The house was a great place to land after a busy day.

A Gem That Needs a Little Polishing

Thanksgiving 2014 was our second stay at Lazy S - our first was back in the summer of 2006. The location, backing up to the refuge and on the valley floor, was perfect for hunting woodcock and given the vast amount of snow we were happy to not drive up to a house on the mountain. Lazy S is cozy and perfect for our family of four but is in need of some TLC. The walls are in dire need of painting, the pans need replacing and some kitchen basics such as a working can opener were not available. One of the reasons we chose Lazy S was because it was pet friendly as we brought our very well trained female Brittany Spaniel. The beautiful rug in the master bedroom shows multiple urine stains - especially around the bed posts where male dogs have "marked". Hopefully the owners will put some effort back into this beautiful home to bring it up to par. If they do we will most definitely be back! I must mention that the staff at Best of Canaan is, hands down, the most friendly and helpful in the valley. This is our second time in 2014 renting a house through them and we will most definitely always choose our Old Timberline rental home from their selection. We have been coming to Canaan for 12 years now, often 3-4x/year and know we will be taken care of with Best of Canaan.

Great secluded mountain home

We had a wonderful stay at Lazy S October 2014. Close to all Canaan Valley attractions. Fireplace and hot tub were great. We were so happy to be able to bring our little yorkie with us so he could hike all the trails.

We had a great experience and really enjoyed or stay. Great location, plenty of privacy. Loved barbecuing on the deck and using the hot tub. The house has lots of space and a well-stocked kitchen. Like other reviews, there are a few things that need to be done with little things like Paint and some small repairs, but these did not affect our stay. We will be back!

House was very nice with the exception of a few issues: Could definitely use a coat of paint, and rugs replaced. Furniture in the livingroom could use cleaning. Television in the livingroom has an annoyoing vertical line on the picture.Shower heads could be replaced. Layout of house was very nice and location was ideal.

Fun Ski Weekend

The house was exactly as described. Adorable and cozy cabin. It was dog friendly so while spotlessly clean, it was a bit worn in some areas. The location was awesome. The kitchen was very well appointed. I brought a bunch of my own tools but didn't need to. The rental company was except5ional-super responsive and helpful. Would recommend to a friend.

Wonderful girls getaway!

We wanted a quick girls weekend to unwind from the Christmas rush! This property fit perfectly! It was in a wonderful private location with hiking right outside our door. The property was spotless and ready when we arrived prior to check-in. The house did have a humorous shortage of light bulbs and batteries for the remote controls (which also were held together with tape!) but it didn't really make a difference to us. The fireplace was gorgeous and there was ample wood provided. We are already planning next years getaway, and are planning to stay an extra night!

Excellent location: Very secluded. Very quiet. Walk from your front door to the 500th Wildlife Refuge trails. Access the Dolly Sods without leaving the gated community! Super close to ski areas and state parks. Short drives to awesome national forests & wilderness. Wildlife all over the place.

House: Great bones. Once a really nice, custom home. Very clean - including the hot tub. Great fireplace (nice firewood.) Nice screened in back porch. Unfortunately: Kind of beat-up on the inside. Could us a lot of TLC. Mildew and musty closets. My wife couldn't be in the Master BR due to the musty smell. 2dn shower has an annoying high-pitched whine.

House Furnishings: Just sad. Worn out towels, linens, couch / chair, cookware (and not great cookware at that - some of it busted.) Minimal supplies (no dish cloths or green pads, you get to run the dishwasher 4x/wk with what is supplied, bring your own laundry stuff. Firm, comfortable mattresses.

Marginal cell reception and very slow internet service. True cable TV (not satellite) no DVR. A single old wired house phone.

Exterminator came to spray during our stay (including front porch - rocking chairs, and back deck - hot tub. No notice, just started walking around the house spraying. Definitely not cool.

Like I said, the location makes the place and in spite of all the rest, we loved it.
