This place is the best

We love everything about this rental - the lovely house w/ well stocked kitchen and great layout, the big windows and lots of light, the wildlife, the hot tub, and the many hikes accessible both on foot and within a short drive. Absolutely the best.

Truly the "Best of Canaan"

This was our second time staying at Touchstone, which we love, and probably our 60th stay in Canaan Valley over the past 25 years. It's a cozy, comfortable well-appointed home located just beyond the gate and near Spruce Island Lake. The property description is accurate, the kitchen is well stocked and the hot tub is wonderful.
We spent our time hunting, hiking in Dolly Sods & visiting Davis & Thomas for shopping and eating. We always enjoy Purple Fiddle & Siriannis for dinner, Hellbenders is great also.
The Best of Canaan owners & staff never fail to go above and beyond to ensure your stay is wonderful. We visit Canaan Valley often, have made the mistake of using other rental companies a few times and now we know not to trust any other company with our hard-earned vacation money.

Touchstone is a gem!
This is a gem of a rental. We went during the Spring and spent a few wonderful days exploring the NWR, the Dolly Sods and some of the nearby towns. The house was perfect for our small family and dog. Having access to the parking lot at the top of the ridge made Dolly Sods access a breeze. The kitchen was great and fully stocked with everything needed. In the Spring you can sit in the hot tub and see the nearby pond. Garage access is a huge plus. While we lucked out on weather, the ability to load or unload your vehicle staying dry in the rain is tremendous. As is, we had a cold morning the day we left and could load our car without wearing jackets. Would highly recommend this rental and hope to return in the future.

Beautiful Property
The weather was perfect, foliage was spectacular, and the home location was a great fit for the four of us. We made daily trips to the nearby sites. Finding a place to eat was a challenge because many places were only opened on the weekends (we were there Monday through Friday).

Cool location nice house but needs a little tlc
Cool location with beautiful ponds and seclusion. Easy access to skiing Timberline and Canaan. The house is nice but very dated. Little things like every lamp shade was busted(not expensive but looks ******). And unfortunately the place was overall dirty. Cobwebs in every corner and we wiped down everything even the leather couch had something red splattered on it. Dishwasher was broken from counter mounts so i repaired one so it would stay in the counter but dishwasher didn't clean any of the dishes. I feel like I'm that guy now ripping this cool house but it needs to be known before you drop a couple grand to spend a week here.

Cozy retreat with hot tub luxury

We had a great experience at the Touchstone. A large kitchen and dining area gave us plenty of room to prepare food for six guests. The hot tub was only a few steps out the sliding door and the house was a warm retreat after a day on the slopes. It's location was prime, too! Only about a five-minute drive to the Timberline ticket office.
We are so thrilled you enjoyed your stay at Touchstone on the Lake. Having Timberline Mountain open again makes it the perfect location all around. Spring, summer, fall, winter. Anytime of the year! We would love to have you back in the warmer months to enjoy the beautiful lake!

Mountain Retreat

We rented Touchstone for 4 days over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was perfect. The home was clean snd comfortable. Gorgeous view from living room and back deck. Kitchen was fully stocked. The new walk-in shower on the master bathroom was fabulous! Property is secluded and private.

Wonderful place

This is a great house on a fantastic property! We loved everything - the several acres to wander with our dog, easy access to spruce island lake and the trail around it, everything. The kitchen was well stocked, the house was clean, and the hot tub worked great. The only minor issue was that the heat in the bedroom we slept in was really high even with two vents covered and the rest of the house chilly. But we'd happily come back anytime!

All And More !!

My husband and I were looking for a quiet private place to breath deep for a week. Well,Touchstone was just that, it was unbelievable that we could sit on the deck and hear nothing but nature around us and overlook the beautiful lake. The house was beautiful on the inside and very clean. Our two dogs would chill on the deck with us and the hot tub was to die for. A little extra money for the hot tub but well worth it.
If there was anything negative to mention there was a man walking his dog every night at dusk along the lake, it was off leash which didnt bother us one bit, but the dog ( I believe a short haired pointer) would run up to our deck and poop right at the bottom of our steps. We were glad we were inside with our dogs all 3 times so we just watched him from the living room. I am sure he was friendly but very negligent of the dog owner. We did mention it to Timberline Rentals. We would love to come back to Touchstone on the Lake again. Well worth it!!!

Amazing place to stay!

The house was perfect! It was very clean and had everything we needed. The location is great for skiing /snowboarding at timberline - we were able to go back and forth very quickly. The kitchen was great too but there wasn't any spices/condiments so don't forget to bring your own if you want to cook.

The views from the large and private back deck and hot tub are spectacular. We also enjoy how the property connects to some moderate and scenic walking trails in the conservancy area without having to drive anywhere. "Touchstone" defines the experience.

We Loved It!!

I usually don't take the time to write these reviews but I just had to for this one. We had probably one of the best impromptu vacations ever and a big reason is because this rental was just perfect. Not only was it comfortable but they also really thought of everything for renters. They put hooks for travel items everywhere, they had special little soaps, and lots of bedding and towels. The hot tub was just fabulous after skiing all day and worked "like a beast" as stated by the rental company. The wood burning fireplace just added to the winter vacation feel. Flat screen tv with prime channels, even one in the kids room. Tons of beautiful dishes, huge garage, and comfortable beds....best of all we were able to bring our faithful friend Yogi Bear, a 100 lb German Shephard who also seemed right at home. The backyard is very private and you can go for walks in the wooded area near a pond. Didn't see or hear any neighbors and we were minutes from 2 ski resorts. We will most definitely be back!! Thank you:)

Christmas at Touchstone
We wanted a stress less Christmas holiday this year. Our week at Touchstone was that and much more. No snow, but everything else was perfect. Love that the location of the house makes it feel so private, yet if we were there to enjoy winter sports or summer hikes they were just a step away. Wish we could do it next year.

We enjoyed all aspects of the property including the rowboat and the hot tub. Kitchen was very good for family cooking. More seating in the living room would be nice. I brought a folding chair. Was surprised with the request to strip the beds and put the towels in the wash and be out by 10 am.

A Place in the Wilderness

A very nice well maintained house. Well equipped, with modern appliances everything worked as it was suppose to. Very quiet peaceful location. The only improvement would be to upgrade the grill. The outdoor grill does not match the quality of the rest of the property. But overall I would recommend this property and stay here again. Value for price was very good.

Touchstone on the Lake - Loved it!

Lovely properly and amazing setting on a pond and short walk to the lake. Very private and quite. The back deck is wonderful. The only negatives was the kitchen had lots of stuff but the pots and pans was a hodge podge of different stuff and a lot wasn't useful. If you plan to stay in and watch TV, its not your place, but who would come to Canaan for that? TV was basically a computer monitor and there were only a few stations. Overall would highly recommend Touchstone
