Fabulous rental

The house was fantastic. Tucked into the mountain side with decks, firepit, hot tub and more. The home was very clean and well appointed. Large windows in the great room to take in the breathtaking views. One evening a large deer was looking at us maybe he was watching tv. The kitchen was very well stocked and roomy. The huge living room had double large sofa's and a big stone fireplace. There also was a 4 person table and chairs behind the sofa's for games, puzzles and more. Comfy beds and a big front porch with rockers. You couldn't ask for anything more at this rental.

Otters Den getaway

Had a great time at Otters Den, everything needed was there plus some, Hot tub was clean and clear and did not have a heavy chlorine smell. Very pleased with the over all experience. Only negative we can say is there was a lot of spider webs on the walls, windows and beams.

End of summer family vacation... “2023”

We had a great time ... especially enjoyed hanging out on the back deck each night! The house was well stocked with everything we needed. We visited Seneca Rocks, Chimney Top, Spruce Knob, Smoke Hole Caverns, Black Water Falls, and drove into Ohiopyle PA for a white water rafting trip.

Rustic Otters Den

The surrounding area is beautiful and many rentals are rustic and fit into the scenery. Almost as if you are a part of nature. This area has not changed in 25 years which is a good thing. Be prepared to relax and turn off the modern and fast pace of todays society. Some must see areas, Blackwater Falls (Lindy Point Trl), shopping in Thomas (Tip Top Coffee Shop is awesome), Seneca Rock-go ahead and hike up it is not to strenuous, Dolly Sods has many wonderful trails but is rocky in many areas and can be muddy after some rain. This rental is darker on the inside than the photos appear. The back deck with hot tub is a plus. And overall the place was clean (coffee pot could use more attention on cleaning).

Otters Den Stay

The stay was very nice. Home is very comfortable including beds. The only bad thing was the driveway. Missed the description of not being handicap accessible. Very hard getting in and out with luggage. Best of Canaan was very accommodating when my TV and internet went out and a very nice young man helped me get that fixed and helped me when I left getting luggage to vehicle. Thank you again

Always the Best

We have stayed at Otter's den on several occasions and will likely find our way back there again. It is a nice place and they have done a lot of work repairing the decks. It is spacious and comfortable and we love seeing the deer and wildlife. Best of Canaan is always professional and easy to get hold of if there is a problem. We don't travel to this area with any other management company.

Fam Reunion

We really enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable for seven adults. Enough room to spread out and chat, play games and enjoy each others company. As we were older skiing was not in the plans - weather cooperated and we were able to enjoy fires at night to take off the chill. Kitchen was fully equipped, and this made meal prep easy. This rental had the most interesting posters and pictures - so tastefully and uniquely done.

September trip

Otter’s Den was a nice place to stay during our September visit to the valley. We enjoyed the new deck and hot tub. We visit Canaan Valley several times per year, so we visited some of our favorite spots.
We experienced a minor water leak in the first floor bathroom. Best of Canaan dealt with it promptly as always.
We would consider staying at Otter’s Den again in the future.

Fun time

We visited from 23-30 July 2022 and enjoyed our stay at Otters Den. I’ll list the good things about the house first:

Comfortable beds
Clean
Nice hot tub and fire pit
Nice layout
All the windows opened fine
Lovely front porch
Secluded
Was stocked with toilet paper and soap
Nice washer and dryer

Some improvement suggestions:
Needs new carpet downstairs (would be better if wood floor)
Was damp and smelled a bit musty until we aired it out
Kitchen is serviceable, but old and could use more storage containers
No hairdryers provided
The lighting is very dim, could use brighter light bulbs to brighten up the rooms
It would be better to have king beds, even if they take up more of the room

We all had a great time and I would recommend the house, but would note the drawbacks so people could make their own decisions.

Ideal Getaway

No OTTER rental would be better!

Otter’s Den fit our family and our vacation perfectly. We were looking for a house that comfortably fit all 8 of us and a space we could just relax, watch movies, and play games. This house had the perfect bed layout with a suite on the bottom floor for the grandparents and just the right amount of beds and Bathrooms upstairs for two couples and two kids. The house also had just enough seating. The huge fireplace was a beautiful centerpiece and heated the home nicely. But the baseboard heat in the all the spaces allowed for personalized heat in certain spaces. We liked making the bathrooms toasty before bed. The fire pit was really fun and the hot tub was amazing! Plenty of wood was provided for both the fireplace and fire pit. The kitchen was well stocked we stayed over thanksgiving and had plenty of serving dishes. We did bring our own aluminum pans to cook in. The only quirky thing in the kitchen is if you are cooking a lot (like thanksgiving dinner) you have to cook with the windows open. With no hood vent, the heat or smoke tends to set off the smoke alarm. I get hot when I cook so I didn’t mind. All appliances worked as advertised and the wifi worked well enough to hook up and watch movies on our Apple TV. Overall it was a great stay and we really hope to book it again next year. The house was great, the gated community was very quiet, and the Beat of Canaan management was really responsive. When we called to have the hot tub cleaned on our last day (we used it multiple times a day) they arrived within 10 minutes. We totally recommend Best of Canaan and Otter’s Den you won’t regret it.

Nice house

We really enjoyed the cozy cabin for our ski vacation. The hot tub was great and the house was very open and fun for our two families. The only complaint we had was that the heat couldn't keep up. It was a very cold weekend (felt like -8) and it was cold in the house with the heat up and the fire place on. The chotchkies in the kitchen could use a good dusting too.

Relaxing long weekend.

Otters den was a nice place to get away from it all. It was just as we expected it to be from the description on vrbo. The property managers were very kind and helpful. When we went to make toast in the morning the toaster only browned on one side of the bread. I called to ask them something and mentioned this. They had a new toaster there within the hour. Beautiful leaves on the trees, nice small shops in Davis, and Seneca rock just a little ride down the road. The driveway was pretty steep at the top for when we were trying to unload the cars. And mom suggested a few chairs on the front porch would have been a nice addition. All in all would I would recommend this rental to everyone.

Little Cabin in the Woods

10 of us rented the cabin for a weekend and we loved it. We walked to ski (about 1 mile) and also walked up to a hiking trail at the top of the mountain road that runs along the ridge and gives great views of the valley. Everyone enjoyed the fireplace and the hot tub. We would definitely consider coming back. And Best of Canaan Rental was easy to work with.

Spring Stay

The house is in a great location of Timberline. There is a guard gate but plenty of room not like a subdivision. The house was large and would accommodate a lot of guest. The house is a little worn even for a ski rental. Kids explored the back yard and had a blast. Hot tub did get hot enough always a plus. Timberline ski resort is very close and friendly but it needs an update in a major way.

Good for the money

This property is a good value for the money. We used it for a bachelor ski weekend with 8 guys and had a blast. The amenities are older and somewhat worn but that is reflected in the price. If you want an brand new, up to date property expect to pay more. The location was great for skiing, short drive to Timberline. The only complaint is that a lot of the firewood was wet so it was hard to maintain a fire.

Great but dated house

The house has a wonderful potential. This is the second time we've stayed there. The beds and linens were very clean and comfortable, but
the house itself is not very clean. Dust and spider webs everywhere and if your allergic, be prepared with your meds. Downstairs bathrooms looked clean but had a very bad odor. The house will fit a large family very comfortably giving everyone their space.

Just what the doctor ordered

This place was fantastic! 4 of us went to get a get a nice escape from city life in Columbus, Ohio and this was the perfect spot for some good R&R. The house was big and spacious and had everything we needed to help enjoy our stay. The hot tub was perfect for the 4 of us but wouldn't be big enough to fit more people, so if we had had more people that could have been a bummer. The views from the cabin were great as through the windows we could see the beautiful fall colors of the trees and saw a few deer as well. Overall we loved our stay and wished we could have stayed longer! We will definitely return to the area and stay in one of the Best of Canaan cabins! Thanks for the much needed getaway!

Otter's Den Christmas visit

We enjoyed our stay at the Otter's Den. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking and the beds were comfortable. The only thing we needed was some kindling or fatwood to get the fireplace started the first night since we arrived after dark and some dishwasher detergent would be great. The hot tub was a bit of a disappointment since the water was not clean yet it appeared as a separate 50 dollar charge on the bill. This is more of a fault of the management company rather than a fault of the house. If you don't plan to use the hot tub I'd get them to take it off the bill in advance. Overall it was a good stay.

Just a few little improvements wouild make it great...

Overall, a nice place. Well laid out, with bedrooms and furniture thoughtfully arranged. Just some little things were noticeable, but they should be attended immediately. Toilet on the upper floor sized for Oompa Loompas, with a toilet seat that is about to fall off. The towel rack and hook did fall off. Blender in kitchen was unusable, and we found no pot lids that fit. Propane tank for gas grill was empty. The sofa bed upstairs was pretty uncomfortable, even for a sofa bed. Still, the good outweighed the bad. There were 9 of us. We filled the whole house, but we were comfortable in the space. We had a very enjoyable stay. Next time we are in the area, we will consider a return.
