Welcome to Ranger Station! This 4-bedroom home was beautifully remodeled in 2024 in a modern farmhouse style with the feel of a boutique National Park lodge. You'll love the gourmet kitchen, spa-like bathrooms, high-end furnishings and entertainment systems, and two-car garage. The home is nestled in a quite mountain neighborhood with private access to the 500 acre Timberline Conservancy with two lakes and miles of walking trails. It's located in Canaan Valley, WV, the largest high-elevation valley east of the Mississippi, and surrounded by the million-acre Monongahela National Forest, the Dolly Sods Wilderness, and the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, with trails connecting directly into these areas right from the community. Decorated throughout with vintage National Park artwork, Ranger Station is the perfect base camp for everything from refreshing nature walks to hiking, biking, paddling, and skiing adventures. Or just enjoy the outdoor decks and walk across the quiet country lane to a lovely gazebo on a scenic fishing pond. Ranger Station is minutes away by car from Timberline, White Grass and Canaan Valley ski areas, Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley state parks, and the charming mountain towns of Davis and Thomas, with their galleries, brew pubs, restaurants, and mountain music scene. Very nice stay

We had a wonderful time and the house House was first class. Never stayed anywhere with everything you could possibly need was there and well laid out. Had a good time walking our old dog on the trails and relaxing on the deck. You will not be disappointed and compliments to the Host for a job very well done.

Great place to base hiking in the Dolly Sods

Brought the family and our two dogs for a week of peace and quiet in WV. Very nice area with hiking, kayaking, fishing, and a few spots to visit for food or coffee. We love Davis and the views in the Dolly Sods.

Wonderful Location

The Ranger Station has been remodeled and upgraded amenities. The house was great before, we stayed there last year, but the remodel was a very pleasant surprise. Both bathrooms are now have SMART features which are very nice. The kitchen has SMART appliances and the kitchen cabinet remodel is BEAUTIFUL. The new furniture is comfy and the new flooring adds a special flare to the rooms. The new fans and SMART controls were a nice touch. The new door locks were a small problem, but maintenance was quick to assist. The new version of this house has just been open for a few weeks, so there is always small things to correct. The landscaping and new outdoor furniture is nice.

Get back in touch with nature at the Ranger Station

We had a wonderful experience while staying at Ranger Station. The house had everything we needed & beyond. The house, linens, towels, everything was spotless. Very impressive upgrades, including all appliances. We visited during May but would love to stay during the winter,the fireplace was just spectacular. The boys really enjoyed the pond. Being from the area put me right back in touch with nature, the views are breathtaking. Best of Canaan very responsive and accommodating. Loved the National Parks theme throughout the house and the lovely welcoming basket with WV goodies. Will definitely book here again! Thank you Best of Canaan for being so accommodating.

Exceptional

Place was so spacious, lovely and well taken care of. Great location, not far from Davis, and Thomas. Had everything imaginable to use in the kitchen. We did venture to Dolly Sods and Seneca Caverns. I loved how the backyard was fenced in as well foe our dog. Would highly recommend this place, and are thinking about rebooting here for next year. Also you don't need to load up and take groceries bc Shop and Save is right in Davis

Ranger Station

We had a very nice time. Because the yard was fenced in our pups had free range to enjoy exploring. The house was open and comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, dishes and utensils for the six of us. The fireplace was a bonus for the one cold night. We would book again.

Really nice and peaceful
This home way perfect to relax on the deck and watch the kids play in the yard. Very conveniently close to many hiking areas and to enjoy walking and fishing the close by lake.

Nice getaway in the woods

I frequent staying back in Old Timberline because I love the privacy, some of the houses let you bring your dog(s), and the private access to the hiking areas and ponds.
We had a great stay but this place was probably one of my least favorite places we have stayed. I loved the theme and the back yard was really private which was nice. The house is right off the road with other houses nearby so the front wasn't quite as private.
It was a little outdated inside and didn't have quite as nice amenities as we usually stay and a little more run down if I'm being honest.
We probably won't go back to this place but it did make a nice getaway for a week's trip.

Summer Fun
Great central location for our family of 5 to explore the sites of Canaan Valley and surrounding areas. We made good use of the fishing pond across the street and yard games and bikes in the garage were a happy surprise. Kitchen was well stocked and house well maintained. We were nervous about having no A/C in July but the mountain air was cool and breezy and surrounding trees gave shade and privacy. The private trail access to Dolly Sods as well as the access to 2 larger ponds and community trails were wonderful and a nice bonus.

Comfortable and Convenient One-Story Home

Ranger Station was overall a terrific place to stay, roomy and clean. Having a place all on one level (with just a handful of steps up from the outside) was great for our group, and the fact that the bedrooms are all in one part of the house that can be closed off with a door from the main room (so that some can stay up to see movies and others not) was also very handy. There is a working VCR not listed in the amenities, btw. The pond and gazebo just across the road are pleasant, and nearby homes are mainly out of sight even though there are signs of life on the roads. We loved the National parks theme (carried out throughout - there were even National Parks pop-up books and a lot of wildlife/conservation books in a desk area in the living room). I would definitely rent this place again.
A few things that might matter to some guests but not others:
-There is wifi, but it's not secure (we got a warning, didn't mind much) AND not as strong/steady as some guests would need. A friend who had an important zoom meeting decided to go home early rather than risk the wifi. The wifi was good enough for streaming at some times but fussy..
-We were there during a freak May snowstorm with lots of after melt followed by rain. This may have affected our water supply, which was orange (due to tannic acid that's heavy in that part of Timberline, we were told), even though the ultraviolet filter in the house had recently been changed/updated. We were OK, but if this would concern you, you might want to check w/mgmt before you book to find out if things have settled down.
-In general the place is WONDERFULLY well equipped (kitchen, grill equipment, extra bedding and pillows), but I wished I had brought a good paring knife

Getaway

The Ranger's Station was quiet and relaxing for our extended family. We enjoyed fishing in the pond, nature hikes, campfires, and attractions within driving distance. Davis was 10 minutes away with good grocery shopping. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Highly recommend this place!

Ranger Station
Liked the gated community so that only those who were renting were allowed in. Peaceful and quiet. Centrally located for what we wanted to do. Happy to find accommodations that accepted our dog who goes where we go. The trees were gorgeous!! The garage doors were tall enough that we could drive the Jeep in with the cartop carrier on. This made unloading and loading so much easier and we didn't have to confine the dog while we did so. Great relaxing experience!!

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Ranger Station. We spent one afternoon at Dolly Sods and did the ski lift at Caanan Valley. It was nice coming back to the Ranger Station and relax by the fire pit. The house is just like the photos. Well felt very relaxed and comfortable. We will do this again.

Stay at the Ranger Station
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Ranger Station. Great central location. The rental interior was just as advertised. The back yard was very private. We did walk the fence line and found a few spots where the fence was knocked down, so we did not feel comfortable letting our dog off leash, which is the main reason we decided to rent Ranger Station over other properties. Even with this glitch, we enjoyed staying at the home, the Timberline community and the beauty of the Davis area.

West Virginia get away

My family and I went to the area with little knowledge. We were thrilled with the area and proximity to many of the sites we wanted to enjoy. The views were amazing and the hiking was great! One week was not enough!

It was perfect! We have plenty of room for all of us and our dogs thought they were in heaven with that big backyard! It was completely peaceful and relaxing and we cannot wait to come back again. Definitely staying for two weeks the next time. Other than having to put in new batteries in the remote, we wouldn’t have changed a thing!

Great place for skiing Canaan or Timberline

House had everything we needed. Liked the National Parks theme. Only complaint was that we had to go out and buy toilet paper as there was only 1/2 rolls in each bathroom.

Christmas in WV

It is a good experience, nice well-equipped house. There were only two minor disappointments. 1. Gate experience could be better. I filled out entrance form and sent back by email. However i was told it wasn’t transferred from the office. So i did it once more. Next time i will probably take a copy with me. 2. One night our dog was crazy for 30 min because of mouse in the house.

A great weekend away
We had a great weekend away at this property. The check in process was easy and the house was as described. Our party of 5 felt very comfortable both sleeping and relaxing in the main room. The backyard is fenced in and a nice size which was a real plus with our dogs. Kitchen had all of the equipment we needed for preparing meals. Everything was very peaceful and we had a great time. Would definitely consider staying again.

Nice well-equipped house in the good place

We stayed for a month and enjoyed every day of it. Large bedrooms, large leaving room with TV, good internet, two porches, one under the shade of the large tree. Huge refrigerator. Everything that is needed for an extended stay. Large garage.

Hiking Trip -West Virginia
The Ranger Station was a great hub for our family hiking trip. It is fairly secluded, yet a short drive to many great hiking trails. We hiked, fished, looked for deer, played cards. It was a great vacation!

The perfect getaway

Great Weekend Getaway

My husband and I loved this home. We wanted a rental that was pet friendly, so we could bring a fur baby along. The home was clean, welcoming, and convenient. The fenced in yard was perfect for us and our dog. This rental has a nice view of a pond with a nice walking trail around it and gazebo. One con that I do need to mention is, there was a musty smell when we first entered the home. The home has two humidifiers and the machines were not running to do needing the water dumped so they could continue to run, once we changed the water the smell was out and the machines ran fine.
