Santa Fun Day at Blackwater Falls Lodge: December 23 It’s Santa Fun Day at Blackwater Falls Lodge. Make a holiday ornament and enjoy hot chocolate in the Music Room at the park lodge from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Santa will be visiting for a jolly photo op. Photos cost $5.
Christmas Day Buffet at Canaan Valley Resort: December 25 The Hickory Dining Room invites you to dinner on Christmas Day. Celebrate the season with a traditional buffet dinner. Serving hours are 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Plate fee is $28 for adults, $10 for juniors age 6-12. and kids 5 and under are free with dining parents (tax & gratuity additional).
New Year’s Eve Celebration at Canaan Valley Resort: December 31 Canaan Valley Resort invites you to ring in 2019 in the mountains. Ski by day, enjoy the evening buffet, and party by night. Gabe Dixon & The Whiskey River Band will provide live music in the Laurel Lounge. There is no cover charge—cash bar is available. A family party is available so parents can spend the evening with their children. Family party includes DJ entertainment, activities, and contest. Punch and party favors will be provided at midnight. New Year Snowshoe Discovery Tour at White Grass: January 1 Ring in the new year with a natural history snowshoe walk. Stroll through the woods while listening to local legend Chip Chase gab about the history of skiing, quirky climate facts, railroad history, and the environmental battle for Canaan Valley. Event starts at 10:00 a.m.
White Grass Winter Trails Day 2019: January 5 Free lessons, area use, and clinics to all first-time interested skiers or snowshoers. XC lessons every hour and a 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. clinic on types of snowshoes, clothing, basic techniques, and outdoor winter snow travel followed by a natural history tour on snowshoes into our neighboring National Wildlife Refuge.
Tracking and Woods-Lore Weekend at Blackwater Falls State Park: January 18-20 Take a step back in time and learn skills that were necessary for everyday life in the 18th century. Enjoy nature, drama, tracking, and history in outdoor and indoor settings. For participants enrolled in the Master Naturalist Program, this weekend may count toward class hours.
Blackwater Falls Winter Photo Workshop: February 1-3 A wild and wonderful winter workshop that covers Landscapes, exposure, wildlife, composition, macro, nature, and more, all set among the picturesque landscapes and features in Tucker County. FEE: $285 (fee does not include lodging, meals, local travel or taxes).
